Healthcare logistics is one of the sectors most targeted by theft. Axitea joins the national association representing distribution and services in the healthcare sector, offering its expertise
Milan, 24 March 2021 – Axitea, the Italian Global Security Provider, has applied for and obtained Aggregate Membership of Assoram, with the aim of developing consolidated relationships with the world of logistics and transport in healthcare to support companies in the sector with its expertise in physical and cyber security, as well as fleet management.
Assoram, founded in 1965, is the only association representing the primary distribution in the healthcare sector of pharmaceuticals, parapharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical and healthcare devices for human and veterinary use. It connects and advises more than 100 companies, SMEs and multinationals that offer a plurality of highly professional and socially relevant services in ensuring the timely and punctual supply of health products to the other downstream players in the supply chain.
In this scenario, pharmaceutical distribution logistics require special attention: the most fragile link in the chain is precisely transport, where the control of the vehicles and the temperatures of the products transported is increasingly important and stringent. This is also combined with the need to reduce the risks associated with theft and the safety of the driver from possible robberies.
The latest figures released by TAPA (Transported Asset Protection Association) confirm the importance of this aspect, with thefts of goods worth a total of EUR 85 million occurring during the first half of 2020. Among the affected sectors, pharmaceuticals ranked second behind electronics.
Today, fleet management is a 19 billion market for which a CAGR of 20% is expected until 2026 (source: Global Markets Insights). In particular, the combination of sensors, connectivity and data analysis has also given rise in the cold chain to IoT (Internet of Things) applications, thanks to which actors in the supply chain can accurately control, plan and predict the progress of a shipment.
Axitea has joined Assoram, bringing its know-how and services, which enable companies to operate effectively and efficiently and simultaneously guarantee the safety of vehicles and the quality of goods, to the network of pharma and health distribution members.
“The security of vehicles and transported goods has always been one of the cornerstones of our offer,” explains Giorgio Triolo, Satellite Business Unit Manager at Axitea, “and in this context we have, over time, specialised our services, one of which is for use in the cold chain, not to mention all that a GPS tracking system can bring in terms of benefits for companies in the sector.”
Thanks to the installation of satellite and IoT devices, Axitea allows healthcare distribution companies to manage their fleets, relying not only on advanced geolocation that can be consulted through a web portal, but also and above all on constant and reliable temperature detection of the load compartments. All this is achieved with digital and certified probes that can be extended if necessary even to professional and portable refrigerators that become true IoT objects capable of communicating position and temperature data both when connected and disconnected from an external power supply.
These solutions are also combined with real-time information on fuel consumption and transport costs, automatic tachograph management and real-time alerts on potential anomalies, thus transforming fleet management from a burden into a real added value that translates into both economic and management benefits.
