Axitea is behind cybersecurity at the Municipality of Civitanova Marche

The purpose of this agreement is protecting the citizens’ sensitive data: Civitanova Marche is among the first Municipalities in Italy to implement an extensive security and monitoring plan.

Axitea, the Italian Global Security Provider, has been chosen as the reference partner for cybersecurity by the Municipality of Civitanova Marche.

In this role, it will be responsible for the municipality’s cybersecurity, and also for the protection of the citizens’ sensitive data. The agreement was announced during a press conference by the Mayor of Civitanova, Fabrizio Ciarapica, and Axitea CEO, Marco Bavazzano.

The topic of data protection is increasingly critical for every public and private organization. Specifically, the increasing digitalization of Public Administrations, further amplified by the Covid-19 emergency, has brought this topic even more prominently to everyone’s attention.

A recent case is that of the Municipality of Rieti, which was hit by an attack that disabled its entire computer network, effectively preventing the provision of essential services to citizens. In particular, sensitive data is an increasingly attractive target for hackers, who use more and more advanced methods to steal it and use it to their advantage.

For the municipality of Civitanova Marche, Axitea has developed a gradual path, starting with the audit of current protection levels, passing through the identification and adoption of best security practices, and ending with the adoption of processes and technologies that can raise the level of network and infrastructure security, whilst focusing on the protection of the citizens’ personal data.

“Municipalities are not just aiming to deliver increasingly digital services for their citizens, they are also required to prioritize document digitization over traditional paper filing,” explains Fabrizio Ciarapica, Mayor of Civitanova Marche. “This poses major issues in terms of data and process security, which is why we decided to embark on this cybersecurity journey with Axitea’s support.”
